The Delaware River Towns is following local and state government directives. Although the original date of Shad Fest is towards the end of April, there are now limited resources that are affecting this date. Our new date for 2021 is October 9th & 10th. To keep our community safe our Director will be working remotely while our physical office is closed. Please contact with any questions regarding Shad Fest or our local community.

What is Shad Fest & Poster Art Auction?

The Shad Festival has evolved from a local art show into a nationally recognized award-winning event. Shad Fest features the area’s finest artists and crafters, great food and family entertainment, but the two-day extravaganza also serves as a venue for local non-profit organizations to raise necessary operating funds.

6pm-8pm Reception

True to its 40-year history, the Shad Fest is a 2-day festival full of art,  crafts, food, and yes, shad! Hundreds of the region’s finest artists and crafters featuring everything – jewelry, ceramics, furniture, apparel, accessories, home décor, and more! This is a rain or shine event.

The Food Court

Everything from taco salads to fried Calamari! There will also be the tried and true favorites: shad chowder, hot dogs, fried Oreos, hamburgers, fries, and fresh lemonade for the traditionalists! Don’t forget to try some of Wild Bill’s Olde Fashion Soda featuring wonderful homemade sodas like root beer, cream soda, and sasparilla. Additional food and beer garden in the Lambertville Station parking area.

Family Fun

Face Painting, Sand Art, and other children’s activities. Don’t miss the fun and educational shad seining demonstrations down at Lewis Island where the Delaware River Basin Commission will be teaching us about how to test water quality.

For your pet’s safety in large crowds, please leave your dog at home.

“We had an amazing group of students last year,” said Shad Festival scholarship co-chairs Jane Wesby and Amy Coss. “The selection process was highly competitive. We were deeply inspired by the six students we interviewed. We strongly encourage all eligible students to apply this year. The community works hard to earn this money, and it is a delight to help fund the next generation of artists.”

Scholarship Requirements

The scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior, age 20 or under, pursuing a degree in the fine or performing arts. Applicants must reside in Lambertville, Milford, Stockton or Frenchtown, New Jersey or New Hope, Centre Bridge, Lumberville, Point Pleasant, Upper Black Eddy or Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania. Students can be matriculating at a public or private institution.

Funding The Scholarship

The Jim Hamilton Shad Festival Scholarship is funded through the combined efforts of local businesses who support the auction, our generous community of artists who donate their art for this cause, the patrons who fund the scholarship through their purchase of the art and the hundreds of volunteers who make the whole thing happen. The Scholarship has awarded over half a million dollars to talented students since 1981. Last year, two students were each awarded $10,000.

Applying For Scholarship

Applications are due by April 3, 2020, and students must be available for an interview the week of April 13, 2020.
